Florida Whig Party Announces Congressional Candidate For The 8th District.

The Florida Whig Party today announced Steven Gerritzen would run against Alan Grayson for Florida’s 8th Congressional District.

Ocala, Florida (Wednesday February 03, 2010)-On Tuesday, February 2, 2010 the announcement was made on the Florida Whig Party website that Steven Gerritzen, candidate for Florida’s 8th Congressional District is now a member of the Florida Whig Party and is seeking to unseat Democratic incumbent Alan Grayson.

The announcement was made by party Chairman Paul Truesdell both in written and video formats.

Steven Gerritzen (W) is running against controversial Democrat incumbent Alan Grayson who first took office in 2009 and is better known for his 2009 statement on the House floor speech comparing America’s health-care system to the Holocaust and his claims that "The Republican health care plan is this: 'Don't get sick, and if you do get sick, die quickly.”

Steven Gerritzen as like the vast majority of all Americans, Steve has never worked in a glamorous position. Steve’s employment history includes busboy to pizza delivery, maintenance to construction, and driving truck to electrical manufacturing. Steven Gerritzen currently works on an assembly line where he has been for the last 7 years but cannot disclose his employer due to his contract with the Federal Government, pursuant to one or more Homeland Security laws, rules, and regulations, that prevents candidate disclosure of the name of the employer, job title, duties, or responsibilities. Additional details about Mr. Gerritzen and his positions can be found on his website at www.GerritzenforCongress.com which also became public on Tuesday the 2nd, shortly after the announcement.

About the Florida Whig Party:
Established in 1833, the Whigs are one of America's oldest mainstream political parties. They were the original party of Abraham Lincoln and four other U.S. Presidents.

Revived by Jeremy McShurley in late 2006, the Florida Whig party has quickly attracted thousands of members. They represent moderate voters from all walks of life that cherry-pick between traditional Democratic and Republican ideals in what has been called the Florida Whig Philosophy. This Ocala, FL-based Whig Party values common sense, rational solutions ahead of ideology and partisan bickering.

This includes general principles of fiscal responsibility, strong national defense and educational/scientific advancement.

Florida is the first state in the nation to achieve revived ballot access for Whig candidates. It was recently reported by Richard Winger of Ballot Access News, “there have been virtually no minor party candidates for U.S. House in Florida in the last ten years. No minor party has yet had as many as three candidates for U.S. House in any election year. The Libertarians had two in 2004, and the Reform Party had two in 2000. The Green Party has not had any in the last ten years. The most the Constitution Party ever had in any one year was one (one in 2002 and one in 2004). The Socialist Workers Party has not had any.”
